Helsinki Photomedia 2020 is held at Aalto University’s Dipoli building at the university campus area in Espoo, Otaniemi district. Otaniemi is located in Espoo, about 10 kilometers from the center of Helsinki, which can be reached by metro and bus directly to the campus, and has good public transport links from other parts of Espoo and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The journey from Helsinki and Vantaa passes over the city limits, so a region ticket is needed. Tickets can be bought from buses, metro stations or with HSL application.

Public transport from the airport to Otaniemi takes about an hour: either the train or bus the Helsinki Central Railway station and metro to Aalto University, the train to Huopalahti and change to bus 550, or bus 617 to Tuusulanväylä and change to bus 552

By train

There is a direct train line from the airport to Helsinki city centre during the day. It takes around 50 minutes to get to the city. The train departs from between terminals T1 and T2. Purchase your ticket in advance from the ticket vending machines at the terminal, before entering the train. To commute to Otaniemi take the metro from the central railway station to Aalto-University metro stop in Espoo.

By metro (Aalto-yliopisto, Aalto University)

The Metro line’s end station in the west is Tapiola or Matinkylä (Espoo), and in the east Vuosaari or Mellunmäki (Helsinki). Take the metro line towards west and hop off at the metro stop Aalto-yliopisto / Aalto University.

There are two exits from the Metro station, Otaniementie and Tietotie. Via Otaniementie, you can access the Main Building Dipoli. The Metro runs every 2.5 minutes at Aalto University station during the rush hour, and every 4–5 minutes at other times. The journey from Kamppi to Aalto University in Otaniemi takes 11 minutes.


You can arrive to Otaniemi area from the airport by using bus. For more specific information on bus connections and timetables between Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and Otaniemi please use journey planner.

Besides the Metro, there are some bus lines serving Otaniemi from Helsinki city area (111, 550, 551, 552 and 555). All these stop by the Aalto University Metro station, entrance A (Otaniementie). Outside the Metro operating hours bus 551N runs to Otaniemi, via Metro station’s entrance B (Tietotie).

Single metro or bus tickets can be bought in advance at the ticket machines or from the bus driver. Please note, that you need a regional ticket (seutulippu in Finnish) in order to travel from Helsinki to Otaniemi and Aalto University (Espoo city). The same ticket is valid on buses and the Metro.
