Helsinki Photomedia is a series of research meetings initiated by the Unit of Photography at the Aalto University in Helsinki. The conference is a venue for researchers working on different aspects of photography and it is arranged every two years.

Helsinki Photomedia addresses photography as a multi-faceted and changing field of interrelated phenomena encompassing all photographic technologies and the related professional and cultural discourses and practices. The conference brings together researchers from multiple disciplines in order to create new crossovers between artistic and scientific research in photography and their respective themes and methodologies.

In addition to general recurring themes that reflect the multidisciplinary setting of the conference, there is one focus question in each conference.
